The minute ETHAN MATHIAS opens his mouth you start looking around to see where the sound is coming from. Surely it can’t be this 17-year-old up on the stage. Ah, but it is. And his new show, WAIT ‘TIL YOU SEE WHAT’S NEXT, makes it very clear why this young man already has a prestigious (at any age) MAC award.
No song seems to be too big a challenge for Mathias.
He takes on the Beatles with a sing-along “Ob La Di,” a delightful duet
with Musical Director Michael Lavine (“I Can See It"),
a young kid wishing for snow (“Come On Snow”), a poignant
“Self-Portrait,” scatting with “Joint Is Really Jumpin At Carnegie
Hall,” and a bit of Handel (yes, Handel from 1737). Besides his dynamic and
versatile voice, he holds his own as he engages the audience. WAIT ‘TIL
YOU SEE WHAT’S NEXT is an apt title. The sky’s the limit with
Ethan Mathias, and we wanna go along for the ride.
