Mother Earth is not happy, and Samantha Shay’s MOTHER MELANCHOLIA expresses her sentiments beautifully through modern dance, sometimes convulsive and other times in slow surrender, and the haunting music of Soley. From the poignant eyes of four women who have witnessed too much, both real and imagined, we see the unthinking devastation of natural resources and the difficulty getting others to be concerned. They support one another, commiserating and comforting, while shedding unnecessary clothing and enjoying what is left. The reality is that you can dress it up any way you like, but the melancholy is still there. MOTHER MELANCHOLIA is a stunning rendition of a disturbing destruction.
