KING-LAUBACH STORY HOUR

Do you have a story to tell? An interesting snippet from your life, like the time your basement flooded or your husband blew up the barbeque pit? This new venture by Stage Left is the place for you to entertain an actual paying audience with your moment of angst, amazement, or consternation.

Cheryl King, playwright, director, and actor, created and manages Stage Left Studio. Susan Laubach, actor, playwright, author, has appeared off-off Broadway, in films, and on TV. Together they have created a way for you to tell your story, if you’re interested. Each storyteller is limited to ten minutes. The story must have a beginning, middle, and end. It doesn’t have to have a moral. It just has to be a story. You can even read it from your notes. No memorization required. And the studio is small enough to be intimate, not intimidating. No make-up or microphone required.

At this particular performance, five people told their tales. One woman had tried folk-singing as an act of charity in a mental home. She was successful, but not in the way she imagined. One man elaborated on his endless and irresolvable conflict with the crazy lady who lives downstairs with her bulldog. Another woman recounted her moment of “horse whispering”. The horse whispered back “don’t get on me if you want to live”. It was a magic moment. A scary, but magic, moment.

The whole hour is cozy, and after the show, the audience can join the presenters for a reception with beverages and snacks.

Currently there is no locked-in schedule for the story hour. The next one will be held on May 31, 2014, at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate should contact Cheryl King at www.StageLeftStudio.net to discuss the details.
