Two people are very much in love. Ariana is from Chile and trying to get her green card to stay in the U.S. She marries Steve. The problem is that Ariana doesn’t love Steve. She loves her girlfriend, Shannon. And Steve is, well, gay. So it all works out in its own way. At least it has until now.

Enter Mom. Yes, Steve’s Mom is visiting and doesn’t know the truth. She knows Steve is married, but nothing else. They want Mom to stay in her “happy place” and plan to fake it during her stay. Good luck with that. Mom is no dummy. An already complicated situation is amped-up to the max by a surprise visit from two immigration inspectors. Ariana and Shannon fear that the emotional river between them is about to become an ocean. Then salvation comes from an unlikely source.

MICHELLE RAMONI has written a witty script that is performed expertly. Full of laughs with a dramatic undertone, this staged reading has all the excellence of a finished production (if you ignore the scripts in the actors’ hands and a little miming here and there).
