There’s a party going on in the backyard of Andy’s (Christopher Borg) and Stanley’s (Tim Burke) Iowa home. They are celebrating the upcoming wedding of their nephew Brandan (CJ DiOrio) and Eugene (Jalen Ford). The year is 2014. The participants are gay in Barry Boehm’s powerful OUR HOUSE, and quips, sharp barbs, and witty repartee are honed to a fine degree, complemented with much booze and tokes of weed. And we are all, audience included, having fun…until we’re not. An explosive incident reveals controlled rages, disappointments, shame, fear, and the power of love. Boehm brings in the issues of racism and homophobia through the character of a police officer (Jon Spano) and gives us comic relief and a touch of hope through the effervescent Paula (Nancy Slusser). A more proficient cast could not be found.

Boehm reminds us that there are many measures that go into building a house. Some are joy-filled, and others have the potential to destroy. OUR HOUSE encourages us to shore up our foundations with love, family, friends, and compassion for those who share the journey with us. What a message!
