Elizabeth Van Meter lost her little sister, renowned Vickie Van Meter who at one time possessed the world record for the youngest distance-flying pilot. She shares family memories, anecdotes, and her feelings of loss, guilt, and grief in THAO’S LIBRARY (there is an award-winning documentary of the same name that was made by Van Meter). And then happenstance – she spots a picture of a Vietnamese female who against all odds has created a makeshift library in her home. And off she goes with a suitcase full of books to Vietnam. The creation of THAO’S LIBRARY is inspirational, and Van Meter tells it with joy and a sense of wonder. This is a story that glorifies and celebrates the perseverance and resiliency of the human spirit across continents, and the audience leaves uplifted and proud to be a part of wo/mankind.
